Women in the Ethiopian highland, Oromo and Amhara, wear a multitude of necklaces. Most of them made out of maria Theresa Thalers or with a rather poor silver alloy. Of all African countries, Ethiopia is the one with the larges variety of metal (silver alloy) beads. Most of them are produced by silversmith from the Southern and Eastern highlands, The beads are either cut out of small silver tubes, or moulde in 2 halfs for the larger ones. Beside beads, necklaces are made out of Telsum charms, or the very original fertility symbols (phallus shaped), some necklaces also are made out of larger silver balls in different forms and shapes.
